Application and Exam Fee
If you conduct environmental work and are dedicated to the advancement of sustainable practice and responsible economic growth in Canada, this multi-disciplinary designation is the missing piece to your professional profile.
It is intended for professionals with significant experience in the Canadian environmental sector, so you must pass the application requirements which includes the EP® Core Knowledge and Ethics Exam.
To get started, you must complete your applicant profile and pay both the $250 + GST/HST application fee and $50 + GST/HST Core Knowledge and Ethics exam fee.
EP® Exam
Our EP® exam proves the general competencies required by all environmental professionals. It focuses on both core knowledge and ethics of our profession.
To prepare for the exam, EP® applicants should review the Body of Knowledge and review the EP® Code of Ethics.
You are required to obtain a passing grade on the EP® Exam before you will be awarded the Environmental Professional certification.
Code of Ethics
The philosophy behind the EP® Code of Ethics and the central tenets contained within the Guideline of Ethical Practice is to support the vision, values, rules of conduct, and standards of practice for EP® members. The EP® Code of Ethics provides a common set of values within the profession.
To protect the public welfare, EP®s must continually conduct themselves to the highest ethical and professional standards.
Body of Knowledge
Canada’s evolving environmental sector demands practitioners to be knowledgeable and ethical ambassadors, with the essential professional and technical skills necessary to thrive in today’s workforce. Environmental workers span every industry in Canada and this framework helps to inspire public and stakeholder trust in the profession.
The EP® Body of Knowledge Book is given to you as part of your application guide and will help you prepare for the exam.
Maintaining Your Membership
The annual EP® membership fee ($230) is payable once you are awarded the designation and renews each year in April.
Learn more about maintenance requirements.
Outstanding Fees Policy
If payment is not received within 30 days of its due date, a penalty fee of $50.00 will be charged. Your membership would no longer be considered in good standing and will be temporarily removed from the roster until payment is received. This status will be lifted, and the member’s name will be placed back on the roster once payment is received.
If it has been more than 60 days and your membership still has outstanding fees, your designation will lapse. Former members are eligible for reinstatement within 3 years from the date lapsed. Contact EP@eco.ca for reinstatement requirements and process. If your designation is lapsed more than 3 years, you will be required to apply as a new applicant.
If you are unsure of your membership status, login to your ECO Account which will have the status of your membership, fees and other relevant member info.
