Application and Exam Fee
To get started, you must pay both the $250 + GST/HST application fee and $50 + GST/HST ethics exam fee and complete your application package (sent after payment).

SBEP Ethics Exam
The ethics exam for the SBEP designation ensures that professionals not only possess the technical expertise required for the blue economy but also demonstrate a deep commitment to ethical practices. The exam assesses your understanding of ethical principles, decision-making, and integrity in complex, real-world scenarios. By successfully completing this exam, you affirm your dedication to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and sustainability in your work, setting a benchmark for ethical leadership in the blue economy.

SBEP CODE OF ETHICS
The SBEP Code of Ethics and the tenets contained within the SBEP Guidelines for Ethical Practice is to support the vision, values, rules of conduct, and standards of practice for SBEP members. The SBEP Code of Ethics provides a common set of values within the profession.

Maintaining Your Designation
The annual SBEP renewal fee ($230) is due once you are awarded the designation and renews each year in April.
As an SBEP, you must maintain a high level of knowledge and skill in our evolving industry. By participating in continuing education, industry events, volunteer activities, and thought leadership you can gain expertise and competencies expected in your profession.
To maintain your SBEP designation, you must complete a minimum of 15 professional development credits annually, in at least three categories, and 6 employment credits.
There are 5 distinct categories for Professional Development:
- Formal Education: 35+ hour formal courses, grad-level degrees/diplomas
- Informal Education: webinars, short courses, seminars, or workshops
- Professional Contribution: instructor, event speaker, author, etc.
- Volunteer/Professional Activities: Board/Committee member, mentorship program, etc.
- Community and Networking: exam proctor, networking event, community work, etc.

6. Celebrate Your New SBEPt Status!
Outstanding Fees Policy
If payment is not received within 30 days of its due date, a penalty of $100 will be charged. You would no longer be considered in good standing and you would be temporarily removed from the roster until payment is received.
The status will be lifted, and the member’s name will be placed back on the roster once payment is received.
If it has been more than 60 days and your designation still has outstanding fees, your designation will lapse. Former members are eligible for reinstatement within 3 years from the date lapsed. Contact SBEP@eco.ca for reinstatement requirements and process. If your designation is lapsed more than 3 years, you will be required to apply as a new applicant.
