Please note that after step three, the ECO Canada team will work with you directly to complete the remaining stages of your application.

Eligibility
You are eligible for this designation if you meet these criteria:
Education — Must have a recognized Canadian college diploma or university degree, or equivalent international credentials.
Employment History — You must have at least five years of environmental work experience in Canada. This experience must be recent (obtained within the past ten years).
Specializations — As part of your application, you will complete a self-assessment against the National Occupation Standards (NOS), and then have three peer references validate your environmental competency.
EP®s are required to select between 1-5 areas of specialization.
Body of Knowledge and Code of Ethics — You must pass the EP® Examination demonstrating your understanding of both the Ethics and Core Knowledge Areas of the EP Body of Knowledge.

Does your experience fit into specializations?
The environmental sector is constantly evolving, and the EP® Certification path is keeping pace. Now, with 16 specializations to choose from, you can showcase your expertise in even more fields. After applying for the EP designation and our staff confirm your eligibility, you will be able to proceed with scheduling your exam or will have the option to select up to 5 areas of specialization. Specializations provide you with an extra credential to promote your area(s) of expertise. Over 300 competency statements have been classified into one or more of the environmental sub-sectors:
- Environmental Protection
- Resource Management
- Environmental Sustainability
- Impact Assessment
- Environmental Management
Don’t see a perfect fit? No problem! You can now apply as an EP® without a specialization. Recognizing that the environmental field encompasses a wide array of activities and expertise, we are now offering a more diverse and flexible certification approach. Environmental practitioners pursuing the EP® designation are now able to proceed with or without specialization.
Application & Exam Guide
To gain your EP® status, you must pass the Core Knowledge Exam, complete Ethical Guidelines and go through peer validation for your chosen specializations.
